CVTC is committed to restoring cultural expressions and ancestral remains that have been taken, stolen, or removed from Ahtna Dene ancestral lands. The CVTC Culture and Historic Preservation Department collaborates closely with various CVTC departments and Tribal communities to ensure that the return process is conducted in a culturally sensitive and community-driven manner. While CVTC adheres to the principles of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), we also recognize that much of our community's cultural knowledge and traditions are documented through intangible materials, such as those found in archives, which are not covered by NAGPRA. Despite this, CVTC remains steadfast in asserting its sovereignty to identify and document these intangible materials and work towards their repatriation.
